Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we park?
There are public parking lots adjacent to the Fun Zone. The Balboa Pier has a large public parking lot, which is just across the street from the Fun Zone. Most have 2-hour maximum time limits. These get fairly busy during the summer, so we highly recommend carpooling or using Uber/Lyft.
Can I buy any food, drinks, or merchandise with our rental?
Feel free to bring your own food and drinks. There are also several restaurants at the Fun Zone that can provide food to take on the boat with you.
How old do you have to be to drive a boat?
You must be 21 years old to rent and drive one of the boats.
Can we play music on the boat?
Absolutely! Every boat has a stereo system on board. It has AM/FM Radio and Bluetooth, so feel free to connect your device to play music.
Will my kids enjoy a ride on a Duffy boat?
Of course! Renting a Duffy Boat is an extremely safe and enjoyable activity with the family. We hand out activity books, and the Harbor is filled with exciting sights. Look out for sea life including California sea lions, sailboats and commercial fishing boats, and even a Ferris wheel at the Fun Zone!
While my party is arriving, can I load or decorate the boat?
Unfortunately, we cannot allow you to access the boat until your entire party has arrived. There is limited functional dock space. If people are running late, you can load up, depart, and come back to pick them up. You cannot sit at the dock and wait for them. We apologize for the inconvenience.
How many people can be aboard a Duffy Rental Boat?
We allow 12 people on board a rental boat, regardless of age or size, at any given time.
Are dogs allowed on the boats?
Yes, we welcome dogs to come along! Preferably under 25 lbs and well-behaved!
Are the boats easy to drive?
Our boats are very easy to drive. They top out at 5 mph, just like a golf cart. We give you instructions and maps before you leave the dock so that you have a detailed understanding of the Harbor and accessible areas.
Do you provide life jackets?
Yes, safety is extremely important to us here at Duffy Electric Boats. By law, children 12 and under must wear a life jacket while on board our boats. Adult life jackets are also on board, stowed under the seat cushions. Infants in a car seat or baby carrier do not have to wear a life jacket but they are provided just in case.
When should I get there for my reservation?
Please give yourself plenty of time to drive down the peninsula and find parking. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your reservation. We will get you checked in and hand over maps and instructions.
Is there a cancellation policy?
There is a 24-hour cancellation policy for standard rentals. Please cancel your reservation at least 24 hours prior, or you will be charged in full.
